When the Dodge Challenger originally debuted for the 1970 model year, it arrived after the Mustang and Camaro, but offered a great number of powertrain choices from the 145-hp, 225-cubic-inch “Slant Six” to the fearsome 426 Hemi, the “Elephant Motor.” The Challenger only lasted five model years, but in that short time, it became one of the most storied muscle car nameplates in the industry. So much so that certain meticulously restored examples have sold at auction for six-figure sums.
The Challenger then returned for a six-year run from 1978-1984, but this new Mitsubishi-based compact coupe only offered two four-cylinder engine choices. The Dodge Challenger finally returned in 2008 ready to make a lasting impression with a massive 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 before later offering a 5.7-liter V-8 and 3.5-liter V-6.

A stark and nearly buttonless interior design is classic Tesla. A huge touchscreen infotainment system dominates the dashboard and faux leather wraps everything from the seats to the door panels. The Model X’s unique windshield/glass roof runs seamlessly from the base of the hood up over the front-seat passengers for a nearly uninterrupted view of what’s ahead and what’s above. Despite these whiz-bang features, the Model X’s cabin leaves us wanting, especially considering its price can easily break the six-figure barrier, with non-descript air vents, misaligned panels, and flat-backed seats that don’t offer enough adjustments.
Most buyers are looking more for tech features than luxury, though, and the Model X can be optioned with the feature that is possibly the most buzzworthy: Autopilot.

The RS3’s mechanicals and MQB platform are largely shared with the $65,875 Audi TT RS, including the thrilling, 400-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder. The kicker for shelling out roughly $11K more than for a 292-hp four-cylinder S3, the five is revised and now features an aluminum block (versus the previous version’s cast-iron piece) and both port and direct fuel injection. The upshot is that the engine is more powerful and 57 pounds lighter than before, removing critical weight from the car’s nose for a front-to-rear weight bias of 57.7/42.3 percent. Put your foot down and there’s a brief pause before the transversely oriented engine’s honking turbocharger spools up a maximum of 19.8 psi of boost, helping to deliver 354 lb-ft of torque at just 1700 rpm. The five-pot then yowls excitedly to its 7000-rpm fuel cutoff to churn out its full complement of 400 horsepower.
The standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission fortifies the RS3’s flexibility on the road, being both effortlessly smooth when cruising and happy to sharply rifle through the gears to keep the engine on boil when the car is driven aggressively. And its highly effective launch-control system makes the wee Audi a stoplight-racing champ: Simply toggle the transmission and the stability-control system to their Sport modes, floor both pedals until the engine is holding at about 3500 rpm, and release the brake to catapult off the line as quickly as some Porsche 911s. Audi doesn’t quote specific front-to-rear torque splits for the Quattro all-wheel-drive system, but the quickness with which it shuttles power fore and aft makes the RS3 eminently controllable at its handling limit.
Despite a 277-pound weight penalty, this sedan sacrifices almost nothing to the TT RS coupe in terms of raw performance: The RS3 is but 0.1 second slower to 60 mph (a blistering 3.5 seconds) and covers the quarter-mile with similarly disorienting verve (11.9 at 117 mph). The numbers also make it 0.3 and 0.4 second quicker (and 4 mph faster) than its primary rival—the Mercedes-AMG CLA45 sedan—and place it well ahead of a BMW M2.

First off, don’t call it a Fisker. That company’s assets were bought by a Chinese company, and the new company is called Karma Automotive. The car Karma Automotive now builds is the Revero.
There are already 10 luxury car makers that offer gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles; six offer versions that can be plugged in to help charge their batteries, such as the 2018 Karma Revero. But besides the stunning design, ultra-luxe boutique price tag, and ownership experience, what makes the Revero different? For one thing, it’s one of only two series-hybrid vehicles available that are effectively electric vehicles that also have range-extending internal combustion engines. By contrast, all other hybrid vehicles in the U.S. market, regardless of whether they can be plugged in to charge, are parallel hybrids.
Under the Revero’s impossibly long, low hood lies a GM-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (a repurposed Pontiac Solstice GXP unit) that produces a maximum 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The exhaust pipes dump out just behind the front wheels. The Revero’s battery pack runs down the centerline of the car in what would appear to be the car’s prop-shaft tunnel. The batteries’ capacity is 21.4 kilowatt-hours, of which 18.9 kW-hrs are usable.
Charging the lithium-ion batteries through the car’s onboard 6.6-kW charger at Level 1 (120 volts at 16 amps, like a typical household outlet) will take 10 hours. At Level 2 (240 volts at 32 amps), that time drops to 3 hours, 45 minutes. Using Level 3 (480 volts at 110 amps) and an off-board 40-kW DC/DC quick charging station similar to a Tesla Supercharger, reaching 80 percent of the battery’s capacity takes just 24 minutes. The Revero’s solar roof contributes an almost infinitesimal 0.2 kW to the car. With 9.5 gallons of gasoline and a fully charged battery, the EPA says the Revero will first travel 32 miles as an EV then an additional 188 on the gasoline generator for a total range of 220 miles. Karma reports slightly better EV and combined ranges during its own testing.

Now as ever, the Mustang provides terrific bang-for-your-buck performance and plenty of style. We prefer the V-8 Mustang GT and standard six-speed manual. The Premium model includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a leather-trimmed interior, heated and cooled front seats, and an upgraded audio system. We’d check that box and also opt for the GT Performance package, which includes Brembo brakes, 19-inch wheels wrapped in summer rubber, Torsen limited-slip differential, and unique chassis tuning. We’d add the active exhaust system for its sensational sounds and delete the awkward rear wing that’s included with the GT Performance package.
This latest Mustang generation brought with it a much-needed independent rear suspension, which replaced the archaic solid rear axle. The switch-up improves its handling and takes its ride quality into the 21st century. Even with the less powerful engines, the Mustang’s modernized chassis delivers a comfortable and controlled driving experience. For added sportiness, there is an optional Performance package for EcoBoost and GT models. The electrically assisted steering on our test car featured selectable modes (Normal, Sport, and Comfort). It’s appropriately light in Comfort mode and nicely weighted in the other two. The Mustang’s brake pedal had a firm feel that was touchy in stop-and-go traffic; it’s easier to apply smoothly at higher speeds.
The Mustang and its competitors even have (gasp!) fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines. While the Ford V-8 has competitive EPA estimates and real-world fuel economy, the Mustang’s four-cylinder woefully underperformed in our highway test. In our testing, the four-cylinder with the six-speed manual returned 24 mpg, a whopping 7 mpg fewer than its EPA rating. The V-8 with the 10-speed automatic saw 24 mpg in our hands, just 1 mpg off of its EPA number.
