The Porsche 911 has preserved the essential elements that made it an icon. Its familiar circular headlights, Coke bottle shape, and sloping rump make it virtually impossible to mistake a 911 for any other sports car. Climb into its perfectly positioned driver’s seat, fire up its powerful and unique-sounding engine, and engage either of its terrific transmissions. Porsche hasn’t said how much each model will cost or when the 2021 911 lineup will go on sale. But based on the few minor changes and our experience with the current model-year cars, we can still confidently recommend the Carrera 4S. The S version’s increased output nets 64 more horses than the standard Carrera, and we’d be happy with either the engaging manual transmission or the snappier PDK dual-clutch automatic. Those who want to enjoy their 911 year-round but have to deal with the slippery conditions associated with winter weather—like us—will appreciate the 4S’s all-wheel-drive system. Unfortunately, it’s a substantial upcharge and no longer brings wider rear fenders, which now appear on all versions. Porsche is known for its à la carte approach to options, which is both a blessing and a curse, because it allows a lot of personalization but can quickly inflate the already-rich bottom line. We’d spring for the Sport Chrono package that adds launch control, additional drive modes, and more. The Sport Seats Plus provide more supportive front buckets, and the Sport package adds desirable performance hardware, specifically a lowered suspension and a louder exhaust system. Our selection of upgrades would conclude with ventilated front-seat cushions, passive entry, heated, multifunction GT steering wheel, and Porsche’s Dynamic Light System Plus that features automatic high-beams and headlights that swivel in the direction the front tires are pointed.

Mercedes Benz S560:

The S560 and S650’s key difference lies with the engine that lives under their imperious hoods. Of the two, the S560 has fewer horses, but there’s more than enough power available, so this is the model we’d recommend for most buyers. Twenty-inch multispoke wheels with silver accents connect the S560 to the pavement, and a huge panoramic sunroof extends over the front and rear seats. Adaptive projector-beam LED headlights brighten the path ahead. The list of standard exterior features also includes rear fog lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated power-folding side mirrors, and LED taillights. Within the cabin, you’ll find heated and ventilated front seats with a massaging feature, along with a Wi-Fi hotspot, keyless entry and ignition, and a heated steering wheel. If you’re using the S560 as chauffeured transportation, the well-equipped rear seat will be a big draw. This car’s second row is heated and ventilated, and it reclines for optimum comfort. It also comes standard with massaging lumbar support, power side-bolster support, and leg rests.

With the 2020 Mercedes-Maybach S560, EPA-rated fuel economy comes in at 16/25 mpg city/highway. The S650 is rated at 13/21 mpg. These cars are a lot less fuel efficient that the Benz S-class; that model achieves mileage of up to 19/28 mpg. Still, the S560 and S650 get better fuel economy than the Rolls-Royce Phantom which comes in at 12/20 mpg. During our time with an S560, we observed overall mileage of 18 mpg.

With both the S560 and S650, you get a cabin that drips with opulence. Luscious leathers and gleaming woods are used throughout, and the interior design is sleek and stylish. These cars have a longer wheelbase than the Benz S-class, and this translates to more legroom for rear-seat passengers. While the S-class provides 34.1 inches of legroom in the back, the S560 and S650 bump this up to a generous 40 inches. The rear compartment comes standard with seats that can heat, ventilate, and massage. Adding the Executive Rear Seat Plus package brings in two folding tables for the rear seats, along with heated and cooled cupholders. This roomier, enhanced rear seat is the main feature justifying the S560 and S650’s price premium versus the S-class. Unless you’re planning on letting a chauffeur take the wheel, we’d recommend sticking with the Mercedes S-class sedan. Somewhat surprisingly, the S560 and S650 are light on cargo space. There’s just 12.3 cubic feet of room in the trunk. With the Rolls-Royce Phantom, you get a trunk with 19 cubic feet of cargo capacity.

As opposed to hand-cutting window film, Computer Cut Window Tinting requires the use of special software and a plotter. The installer will set up the plotter to cut the material for the exact make and model of the vehicle. Once the material has been computer-cut, the technician will install the material with the use of a squeegee and heat gun and make any necessary adjustments to ensure a perfect fit. Tint Magic use Suntek and LLumar window film made in USA and examples of computer cut window tinting.

Benefits of Computer-Cut Window Tinting:

  • Save Time – Hand-cutting window film is a tedious and time-consuming process. While the plotter is cutting the film, you can be cleaning the windows.
  • Consistency – With the use of a computer cut template, you can be sure that the window film will be an exact fit every time.
  • Safety – Since there is no cutting happening on the glass, there is less risk of damaging the customer’s windows and window trim.
  • Save Material – The software and plotter maximize the use of your window tint, meaning wasting less material and saving money.

The greatest amount of material savings is achieved when the templates are cut off the plotter. Computer Cut allows a window to be cut at the exact edge of a window. Hand cutting of the film does not allow for this so even when an installer is trying to minimize the amount of material used, there is always at least about 2″ of film waste per side of the window. This amounts to over 3 sq. ft. per vehicle. If an owner does not watch the way an employee/ installer cuts the film this waste can be considerable and possibly double the square footage per car. Other savings can be achieved from the use of tools. Since computer cut almost totally eliminates hand cutting, it drastically reduces the number of Olfa blades an installer uses.

The Civic Type R 2019 is the most powerful Honda and first Type R to be sold in North America. The five-door hatchback is the fifth generation of the Civic Type R but has always been forbidden fruit here until now. The Type R is powered by a 306-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching and a helical limited slip differential in order to get all that power to the ground via the front wheels. Standard features include 20-inch aluminum wheels with summer tires, cross-drilled Brembo front brakes, an Adaptive Damper System, high-flow exhaust with three center mounted outlets, sport seats, a 540-watt 12-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, 7-inch touchscreen, navigation system and much more. The Civic Type R is unchanged for 2019.

It’s all too easy to get caught up in the acceleration numbers these days, but that would completely miss the point of the Type R. Impressive performance, wonderful feel and a friendly demeanor are the hallmarks of this car. Nothing in this class does it better.

Acceleration

8.0The engine’s responsiveness is soft under 3,500 rpm, so you’re not going to win any drag races. But that’s not what the Type R is about. On full boost, acceleration is energetic and strong, and the short gearing always keeps you in the powerband. Its 5.3 seconds to 60 mph is less impressive than its quarter-mile trap speed of 105 mph.

Braking

9.5The pedal is high and firm but is always easy to modulate, no matter the speed. These are the biggest brakes ever offered on a Civic, and they are more than up to the task of spirited driving and fade-free braking. Stopping from 60 mph is done in a very impressive 99 feet.

Steering

9.0Quick without being nervous and direct without being darty, the Type R’s steering gets it right. Steering effort is affected by drive mode, but most of our team found the Sport steering mode to be a good compromise. The +R mode is slightly too heavy and provides no improvement in feel.

Handling

9.5Capable and refined but still loads of fun, the Type R has the best handling in its class. Credit the front differential, the trick suspension and the reasonably light curb weight. This Civic is always a willing partner.

Drivability

9.0Its around-town manners are commendable considering all the performance the Type R has to offer. Turbo lag is the biggest issue, but the easy clutch and responsive throttle make it bearable.

Cadillac XT6:

The XT6 is a brand-new offering and a brand-new nameplate for the Cadillac lineup for 2020. It’s new from the ground up, although it’s based on the same platform as the Buick Enclave, which was last redesigned for the 2018 model year. The XT6’s fuel economy estimates are on par with other six-cylinder rivals such as the Acura MDX and the Mercedes-Benz GLE450. Front-wheel drive models are rated by the EPA for 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined; all-wheel drive models see city and highway numbers lowered by 1 mpg but the 20-mpg combined figure remains the same. The XT6’s result on our 200-mile highway fuel economy test route is less rosy, as our all-wheel drive test vehicle delivered just 22 mpg versus 25 mpg for the MDX and 23 for the GLE450.

In the interior, the Cadillac offers both seven- and eight-seat layouts with either a second-row, three-seat bench or a pair of captain’s chairs; all XT6s come with a third row with space for three passengers. Cargo space is limited behind the XT6’s third row, with space for only three carry-on suitcases in our testing. Lowering the third and second row seats to their flat position opens up much more space; we were able to fit 31 carry-ons in total. The Q7 accommodated one more carry-on behind its third row, but just 25 in total with all seats folded, making the XT6 the better choice for bigger, bulkier cargo.
